“Since 1701” by Danny Rebb

I live about half a mile from where Detroit borders Dearborn, which is home to the largest Middle Eastern community in the United States. This sign is a way for the City of Detroit to combat Islamophobia by extending a welcome to Arabic speakers. Per a neighbor living in my apartment building, the English translation on the sign is “Welcome to Detroit. This image fits the theme by illustrating that reaching out to others in their own language is a way to break down barriers promote positive change by building community.

Danny Rebb is a disabled self-taught photographer who first picked up a camera forty years ago and currently resides in Dearborn, Michigan. His work seeks to portray unexpected beauty in the ordinary as well as in overlooked places and circumstances. Danny was previously published in Burningword Literary Journal and Flora Fiction Literary Magazine.
