“All Beauty is Ordinary” © 2026, Edward Michael Supranowicz

To say all beauty is ordinary is to imply the converse that the ordinary is beautiful. I have always thought it was the artist’s job to find or create beauty in the ordinary. Too much of what we call beautiful is a packaged and marketed emptiness, something to be bought and sold, sold for more than its intrinsic worth.

Christ was crucified between two crosses, each of which held a criminal. His message was that He died for everyone, and everyone could be forgiven. It seems now many people have their own “true” crosses of ideology, politics, power, ambition, or personal “feelings” that are in direct opposition to each other, but each side claiming they are the “truth”, which leaves Christ’s cross as having been both physically lost and having lost its meaning.

Edward Michael Supranowicz is the grandson of Irish and Lithuanian/Ukrainian immigrants. He grew up on a small farm in Appalachia.  He has a grad background in painting and printmaking. Some of his artwork has recently or will soon appear in Fish Food, Streetlight, Another Chicago Magazine, Door Is A Jar, The Phoenix, and The Harvard Advocate. Edward is also a published poet who has had over 700 poems published and been nominated for the Pushcart Prize multiple times
