STANDING ON THE CORNER

standing on the corner
every wave a voice
every car horn a statement

conversation
with an immigrant
from an island near Venezuela

made this day
so poignant
so real

the laughter and joy
despite the horrific events of the week
uplifting

there are many more
car horns honking
today than prior weeks

same corner
same people
more responses

could
this be
the tipping point

I will go again today
I will keep going
as long as my voice is needed

for justice
for truth
for life
