<Verified> is a panoramic image that visualizes my identity through the intersection of traditional photographic recording and contemporary data systems.

When we use Face ID on a smartphone, the machine projects tens of thousands of invisible infrared dots onto our face to read its three-dimensional information. <Verified> renders these invisible infrared signals visible—projects them onto the face and re-photographs the result. Beneath the blue dots, the actual face is faintly visible while layers of quantified data cover it—symbolically revealing how the self is translated into data and identified within the digital world.

In the past, portraits served as a means to reveal an individual’s character or inner life. Today, new forms of vision, such as facial recognition technology, employ the face in fundamentally different ways. <Verified> captures the point where the tradition of self-portraiture intersects with the cold gaze of contemporary technology.

Suhjin Chey is a sophomore at Seoul Scholars International with a strong interest in how emotions—particularly fear and anxiety—can be expressed through visual language. For her, art is a quiet and reflective process that helps her observe and translate subtle shifts in her inner world into imagery. Her desire to make the invisible visible extends naturally into related fields such as fashion and architecture. Suhjin is drawn to exploring how form, space, and design can carry emotional weight, and she hopes to continue developing her unique perspective through interdisciplinary artistic expression.
